Istria

That punim says it all.

Istria, the kitten we met at Istria cafe, is coming along wonderfully. She's healthy and happy and loves her adopted brother, Achilles.

one more cat ...

Readers! Achilles and Istria went together to their forever home this weekend. That means we have reached ninety-nine cats adopted directly through Hyde Park Cats into forever homes. This represents a ton of work on the part of all our foster parents, drivers (to and from the clinic), adoption counselors, posterers, adoption-event coordinators, the folks at Parker's Pets, and of course our Adoption Coordinator, Ainat. Thank you all!

This weekend we approved two more adoptions: Tashma and Sophie both have chosen their new people but haven't taken over their new homes yet. Who will be lucky 100?

Pictured here is Martha, who also went to her forever home this weekend. And p.s. ... Istria is a boy.

Istria and Achilles

Istria with her fosterbrother Achilles. The two are getting along famously and fostermom Mireille does think Achilles is moving more and better now that he has a little sister to chase around.

Achilles has improved his mobility somewhat with the physical therapy and the chasing of the sisters (Martha is also at Mireille's romper room now). He needs a low litterbox and may not be able to manage stairs. But he gets himself on the couch, under the furniture, and definitely onto your lap. He will lie on his back in your lap for ... ever.

Achilles and Istria

As a mom, all I can say about this picture is I don't want to know.

NINETY FIVE

Recent adoptions: Peanut! Pym and Luna together! Fawn! Sfama! Juniper and Dudley (both "foster failures") And all six Sophie kittens have found forever homes.

By my count, this brings us to NINETY FIVE cats adopted directly through Hyde Park Cats. (We have also brought numerous cats to PAWS and Treehouse for adoption through their programs.)

Pictured here are Mimi and Isabella, who were removed from the MJK Alley, our first project. Mimi is the original, the first HPC cat! She was brought to Treehouse and ... adopted by MJK herself. She now resides right here in Hyde Park, a treasured and pampered (and fat) housecat.

WHO will be the hundredth cat adopted through Hyde Park Cats? Vote now!

Will it be ...

96 Tashma
97 Sophie
98-99 Achilles and Istria
100 ........ Harper

The reader(s) who accurately predict the next five adoptions wins ... a FREE CAT! Ha ha ha just kidding. We'd never give away one of our cats! Leave your "fantasy cat adoption" draft picks in the comments.

LATE BREAKING NEWS. Last night we learned that Pattie and Tricia's long-term fosterers have decided to adopt them. So that brings our new total to 97!

Istria Cafe

Sometimes cats find you, like when you're having a coffee with someone at the cafe, and then somebody else comes along and takes a tiny kitten out of a backpack and it turns out somebody gave her this kitten at a busstop, and she was about to go online and find out how to contact Hyde Park Cats, and there you are, just having a coffee, and suddenly there is a tiny kitten lapping milk out of a saucer on your table ...

Shofar

I love the first pic -- it's so very meta! Remember this photo of Istria on the blog?

Shofar is a VERY energetic and loving kitten who came to us from AWL. He is extremely energetic and playful and adores children. He is delighted when company comes over and is sure to greet every visitor. He follows Fostermom Tameka around all day long and likes to be "where the action" is. Shofar is very affectionate and loves to be held and rubbed. He shows his appreciation by purring very loudly.

Shofar is only one of the many wonderful cats and kittens for whom we are seeking homes. Apply today!

AIM? or MIA? or IAMs?

Pauvre Mireille. We gave her a special assignment this summer: three unrelated kittens -- Achilles, Istria, and Martha (after momcat Minette went to her forever home). Oh, poor Mireille, forced to endure weeks of kitten antics and fuzzy faces. If you are interested in being a fosterparent to needy cats and kittens, email us at hydeparkcats@gmail.com. We provide the veterinary care and a starter kit of food and litter. Other fosterers are always available to give support and advice. Foster a cat!

Thanks to some folks who donated stuff: Ginny, thanks for the bowls and towel; Katherine G., thanks for the food, and Tom and Christine, thanks for the litterbox and the food. Your worn-out towels are particularly welcome. If anybody has straw to donate we would use it for outdoor cats.

Post 1000

Readers ... this is the 1000th post on this blog. I started writing this blog in 2008 in order to raise money for the original alley site, and although I have often wished I were shorter on material, I have found there is always another cat just around the corner, waiting for her moment.

I think this may be my favorite blog post: A Day in the Life.

But I like these as well ...Rock a Bye ... Istria Cafe ... Afikomen ... and OMG Kittens. Best post ever is still pretty good ... and there are so many more blog posts I love filled with memories, both sweet and bitter.

Do you have a favorite blog post -- something that made you laugh? Or cry? Or the post where you saw your kitty-bashert (your fated kitty) for the first time? Leave a comment! I'd love to hear about it!
