Cassie and Kio are a cuddly brother and sister pair. Kio is a gorgeous grey male with giant paws who absolutely loves to give hugs. He'll actually wrap his paws around your neck and just start purring away. He's very active and loves to play, especially with his sister. Little black Cassie is more shy than her brother and about half the size but once she warms up she's an absolute love bug and will sit contentedly in a lap for hours. They are both very sweet and even-tempered kitties! Cassie and Kio were born in an abandoned building in Bridgeport, and were originally adopted from us last year, but returned when their owner got a job that demanded a great deal of travel. They must be adopted together, and promise a lifetime of monochromatic cat love.

Kio and Cassie are an adorable brother/sister pair. Kio is a boisterous young guy who loves a good romp around the apartment and bird watching out the window. Fostermom says "Kio even greets me as soon as I get home with a unique little meow letting me know he wants a hug before I do anything else (he may just want his dinner but I like to think he enjoys my hugs)! Cassie is a little quieter, but as soon as I sit down for even a minute she'll snuggle into my lap and purr away. She really enjoys being groomed and scratched under the chin. They make quite the couple and are always either cuddling together or chasing each other! They're going to make some cat owner very lucky, between the two of them there is so much personality!"

Two more kittens from Daniel Y.'s Bridgeport TNA Project: Cassie in black, Kio in gray. I have a black cat and a gray cat myself; I must say it's an easy fur combination! Kio, the boy, is a big cuddler. Cassie, the girl, is coming around. Fostermom promises more and cuter pix soon!

SATURDAY: Visit us from 12-4 in the foyer of the costume/Halloween shop on the corner of 53rd near Lake Park -- kittycorner from Borders (where the video store used to be). The Halloweeeeeen store has graciously given us the foyer space to hold a bake sale slash cat-food drive! Please stop by and buy a cookie, and then shop at the Halloween store, promoting business actually transpiring in our neighborhood!

Brother (gray boy Kio) and sister (black gal Cassie) just relaxing at fosterhome, looking all cool and suave. Kio and Cassie both enjoy playing with each other in a pretty low-key way but the evenings see the "kitten krazies" come out. Fostermom Katerina says both kitties love shiny things that jingle (and anything small that moves). She bought the kitties collars and tags and "for the first day and a half, neither cat could run any distance because the second they heard the collar jingle they would stop to bat at it. THis made for a very comical couple of hours." Neither kitty loves noise or large groups, but they will warm up to individual people after one or two encounters. Their comfort level with groups may increase over time but for now they both sleep in bed with a person, enjoy belly rubs, and are very affectionate in one-on-one encounters.

The meatballs will be donated to the dogs at the Animal Welfare League's intake facility during our visit there the following day. We've had some wonderful adoptions take place in the last few weeks! Zucca went home. Ginger went home after her forevermom met her and fell in love during our adoption event. Kalla and Rain went home together, heart. Brothers Ramses and Tut are going home together to live with a little human boy. Arancio, aka George, is a "victim" of fosterfailure and is staying put. Louis le Roi and Jada went from their cages at AWL to our fosterhome to forever homes! Sibs Cassie and Kio, home. Siegel found a fantastic home (we laughed when we had to call the President of the AntiCruelty Society for a reference!). And most amazingly, orange sibs Charlie and Ruthie, who were living outside in Kenwood, have found an indoor home together.

We still have cats and kittens available for adoption, of course, like siblings Cleo and Darius, pictured here canoodling.

February adoption roundup

February was a month of pairs -- in honor of Valentine's Day -- four pairs found homes in February! We believe in adopting already bonded pairs (generally siblings) together -- read more here.

Other February adoptions were Topaz and Dolly. Dolly is one of our foster failures (by which we mean fosterparent just couldn't part with her). Topaz actually made her own adoption happen. She was taken to the local vet by her fostermom, and while she was there, a Hyde Park resident happened to see her while he was there with his resident cat. Topaz meowed at him ... quite a while later, when she showed up on the blog, he remembered her sweetness and inquisitive meow as he walked past. And now she's in her new home, learning to meow in Bulgarian. Мяукане!
