Siegel

Siegel is from our satellite site in the Pullman neighborhood, managed by Heather S. She writes about Siegel: "He is estimated to be about a year old (based on his immaculately clean teeth!) and had been living in a yard for several months. He was covered in fleas and burrs matted into his beautiful fur but he is all cleaned up and fuzzy now. Siegel is the perpetually kneading and purring kitty. As soon as a person comes into his room he starts purring and rolling and kneading. He will even roll on his back and knead the air. He is so cute and loves attention and laps and smashing his head into people. He makes little peeping and humming noises rather than meowing. He is very calm and just loves it when someone sits with him so he can curl up on their lap (and knead, of course). He is one of the cuddliest softest kitties I've ever met! I think he is so happy to be inside now he just likes to get in his squishy cat bed and makes no attempt at all to leave the bathroom where is is staying until he gets his forever home. He likes NPR (favorite commentator: Robert Siegel) and LOVES to be brushed and combed now that his fur is all cleaned up. He is an awesome kitty, seriously. Insanely cute. Also, please note his enormous lion feet. They are monstrous. So cute."

Sofia

Our friend in cat-rescue Heather S. has worked very hard for the last several years TNRing her South-Side neighborhood of Pullman. Not only does she TNR in her neighborhood, she has pulled multiple friendly cats, such as the majestic Siegel off the streets. In her spare time she "enjoys" rescuing cats from highways.

Heather has a special case she would like some help with, a black kitten named Sofia. Heather writes that "Sofia had trouble walking pretty early on but nobody could figure out what the problem was. She wanted to play so badly but she seemed to be in pain when she would even attempt to walk." Finally a diagnosis has been reached -- this kitten has Rickets, a rare vitamin D deficiency which causes Sofia's bones to be very soft, causing constant painful fractures and deformity. This is treatable and since it was caught early, good news -- but that comes at a cost.

If you would like to support Heather in her excellent work saving cats on the South Side, and help give this kitten a shot at life, please consider The Sofia Chip-in. I know this post catches you at a time when you have already been asked to give to many causes. Please know that small amounts do add up for those of us trying to care for the kitties in our midst.

Round up

Please join us for a meatball-making party on Saturday afternoon, December 11th (time and location TBD)! The meatballs will be donated to the dogs at the Animal Welfare League's intake facility during our visit there the following day. We've had some wonderful adoptions take place in the last few weeks! Zucca went home. Ginger went home after her forevermom met her and fell in love during our adoption event. Kalla and Rain went home together, heart. Brothers Ramses and Tut are going home together to live with a little human boy. Arancio, aka George, is a "victim" of fosterfailure and is staying put. Louis le Roi and Jada went from their cages at AWL to our fosterhome to forever homes! Sibs Cassie and Kio, home. Siegel found a fantastic home (we laughed when we had to call the President of the AntiCruelty Society for a reference!). And most amazingly, orange sibs Charlie and Ruthie, who were living outside in Kenwood, have found an indoor home together.

We still have cats and kittens available for adoption, of course, like siblings Cleo and Darius, pictured here canoodling.
