Coconut and Avocado (happy ending update)

I'm running a special all week: happy ending updates! If you have adopted a cat through us, please send me your happy ending update.

Bubble Tea kittens Coconut (now Flurry) and Avocado (now Cupcake) are all grown up and appear to be in charge of their new home. Forever mom Marlis writes "here is Flurry with resident dog Tabitha; she's finally gotten relatively used to them though she still doesn't appreciate it when Cupcake crouches at the bottom of the stairs and ambushes her as she comes down! They are both cuddle bugs and Cupcake especially insists on sitting in my husband's lap. Thanks again for everything and keep up the good work!"

Coconut and Avocado were two of our Bubble Tea cats rescued from an alley in August. All four kittens and their mama, Tapioca, have found forever homes. You may remember this iconic photo of Coconut and Avocado embracing. We're soooooooo glad they were able to stay together forever.

Don't forget to buy your last-minute gifts, including your very own Hyde Park Cats calendar, at Parker's Pets today!

Thanks to Margaret B., Nicole T. and to Ruth H. for their donations, and to Emma B., Bella's fostermom, for her generous underwriting of Bella's veterinary care. Purrs to all!

Bubble boys and girls

The Bubble Tea cats have had a visit to the vet. Everybody is in good health. The strangest news is that poor Tapioca has no fangs! We've assured her that going forward she is going to be an indoor cat and will no longer have to hunt for food. Can you make our promise come true? Tapioca is a superfriendly. She purred in the vet's arms! She was described by a volunteer as "the mellowest, sweetest cat EVER."

BOYS
Coconut (mostly white) and Mango (mostly black -- longhair?)

GIRLS
Avocado (tabby and white -- looks like mamma) and Kiwi (black and white -- smallest by an ounce)

Below is a picture of the kittens cavorting in their temporary foster place

Bubble Tea Cats

Last night a Mamma cat and three (out of four known) kittens were trapped in an alley off 53rd and Drexel. Mamma is a friendly who was all like, "hiss, hello, I'm getting in that trap for that food right now." The kittens then started a round of you-can't-catch-me, which resulted in three being caught by hand (and thrown en masse into a dog carrier) and one stubborn kitten still being outside. We are monitoring the fourth kitten and hope to catch.

Also found was one mellow possum sleeping in the engine of a car we thought they were hiding in -- surprise! You can make out its ear in this picture below. S/he was quite polite and turned her back to us rude intruders.

Mamma cat and three kittens are now inside. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mamma cat, friendly and interested in people, seems like a teen at best. She is very skinny, very very skinny and needs some TLC and a lot of food . She is a beautiful tiger-with-white and we've named her Tapioca. The kittens are skittish but are young enough that, with socialization from people, they should come around to being friendlies as well. They are still nursing although they are big enough to eat kitten food. We're calling them Coconut, Mango, and Avocado. The "missing" kitten is Kiwi. Altogether they're the Bubble Tea cats!

WE NEED A FOSTER HOME. THEY ARE IN A VERY TEMPORARY SITUATION. Please email hydeparkcats@gmail.com with any questions or offers.

Thanks to Nikki and Luke for the heroic rescuing, to Arianna for the towels and wet food, and to Ginny for the recent donation.

Tapioca: Happy Ending Update

Readers, an update on Tapioca, the "Bubble Tea" mama cat.

Furrrever mom Yoko says “Tapi  is doing very well -- our resident cat, Poppo and Tapi are, sadly, still not the best friends in the planet but somehow we manage to live together.  My partner and I love both of them so, so much and I cannot believe it took me 40-some years to realize I am such a cat person.  I cannot even imagine my life without them -- they give me such a joy every single day."

We caught Tapioca and her four kittens in 2009. Read about it here, and search the blog for "tapioca" and "bubble tea" to see other posts about this amazing little family.

When we found her, Tapioca was a skinny little mama cat trying to survive outside. Now, she is a treasured housecat. "Our apartment has lovely balcony," says Yoko, "and Tapi loves to take a nap next to flowers during summer.”  Happy life, Tapi. Happy life.

HEATWAVE ADVISORY IN CHICAGO. PLEASE leave out plenty of extra water for any ferals you are feeding, for the birds and squirrels, etc.

Bubble Cats update

Kiwi and Mango (the black and white kittens) went home, as reported. Coconut and Avocado, the tabby pair, have been spay/neutered and also have tested negative for FIV. Yay! Tapioca has tested positive for FIV. FIV+ cats are not sick: FIV is a virus that causes their immune systems to be compromised, but is not an illness itself. If you have a low-stress environment you'd like to share with our beautiful teen mamma, send us an adoption inquiry at hydeparkcatsadoptions@gmail.com.

updates: Sophie and Sepia

Sepia in her forever home. Dad writes "even on her first night she played, ate, cuddled, used the litter, and slept with us in bed. She quickly settled on this scratching pad as 'home base' and has been using it as a toy, a bed, and a fort. She is active, and loves to play all the classic cat games, from paper bag and box to mouse, string, and ball. We are all getting along great."

Sophie in her forever home. Forevermom says "she settled right in here, demanding her morning rubs and pouncing my cellphone antenna. She's a big player now, particularly after a catnip bubble spill on the futon (giant cat toy!), but she's still more interested in snuggling. We're thrilled to have her here; she really is a wonderful cat."

Mazel tov SOPHIE! Mazel tov SEPIA! Happy life!

    Tapioca seeks forever home

Tapioca, our Bubble Tea Cats Mama, is still available for adoption. She is a sweet and loving young female, very pretty, a good companion. She's a snuggler and enjoys being petted, groomed, and waited upon. Catnip is her drug of choice. She is FIV+, but healthy. (We can provide you information on FIV, a chronic condition that does not prohibit the cat from contact with other cats and is not transmissible to noncats.) Tapioca took great care of her four kittens at serious cost to herself; she was skin and bones when we found her. All her kittens have been placed in forever homes ... but Tapioca is still waiting for hers!

Kiwi and Mango (happy ending update)

Raven (Mango) and Cloud (Kiwi) (including one of them rendered in play-doh) in their forever home. Forevermom Jaime writes "It's hard to believe how big they've gotten (and how agile). Raven can leap to amazing heights and Cloud is the master of waiting patiently out of sight to pounce on him. She's very snuggly and is usually in the arms of one of the kids. Raven prefers to cuddle up with the kids, purring loudly, to wake them up in the morning. Adopting them was one of the best things we've done for our kids."

two more of our Bubble Tea cats rescued from an alley in August. All four kittens and their mama, Tapioca, have found forever homes.

Thanks to Julie L. for the donation!

    Construction Cats: update

With all the excitement of our new Bubble Tea cats, you may have been wondering if we've forgotten the Construction Cats. Of course not! The last Construction Cat went to her forever home yesterday. We received an email report that she had fallen asleep on her new person's wrist just as the new person was writing the update. Awwwwwwwww!

Connie is now Theadora -- or just Thea -- and she lives with Jane, another Hyde Park Cats rescue.

Kindle went to a home with a four-month-old stepbrother, with whom she apparently gets along famously.

And as reported earlier, Cat Cora and Karma are together with their forever person, an actual veterinarian.

So this chapter of Hyde Park Cats has closed out with nothing but positive endings. Thanks to everybody who worked together to make this amazing thing happen.

    Bubble Tea cats update

Kiwi, kitten #4, was caught on Saturday and added to the batch of unbearable cuteness below. Everybody is going to the vet this morning. We are still seeking a foster situation for these kittehs, and will be open for adoptions very soon! Remember, reserve your kitteh now!

Tapioca, our mamma cat, resting with all four kittens

Kiwi is the white and black one
Mango is the mostly black one

Coconut is the mostly white one
and Mamma's "mini me" is Avocado

Thanks to Margaret for the recent donation (this will cover our vet visit!), to Katherine for the food, and to Vicky for driving those cats around today!
