Lydia

Lydia is a very pretty calico found nearish to Black and White Cat World. Diane, the B/W caretaker, says her husband Jerry "scared the kitty out of the peony bush near our parking area when he came down to help bring in groceries last night. note to my husband: help bring in groceries. He said there is something wrong with her eye. I knelt down to take a look and try to coax her out --imagine my horror when she looked at me with one eye and a pink socket! I put some food down immediately, because who goes grocery shopping without buying cat food, and she immediately went for it."

Lydia is a very sweet and affectionate cat. She is a young adult, apparently has had kittens at some point in the not too distant past, and ... has a very distressing problem with her eye. She is ravenous. After a stopover at Ruth's Hotel de Garage she is now with fostermom Amy who says she is the friendliest cat she's ever met, and it's hard to take pictures because Lydia keeps getting right up into the camera in order to be close to her new fostermom.

Can the eye be saved?

I'd love to hear an update on the condition of the eye. I wonder if it's just a bad infection that can be resolved or if it's a bad injury or even a birth defect? Poor kitty, at least it hasn't affected her personality.

I hope her eye gets better! Speaking of visually-impaired kitties, however, everyone should read Homer's Odyssey, by Gwen Cooper. It's about a sweet cat who lost both of his eyes to infection. It will inspire you!

Lydia - so named to echo Nadia - is a remarkable cat. She is calm and confident and very affectionate. And the incredible thing is that after a short time in her company her fabulous personality makes you forget about her missing eye.

You really don't notice the missing eye at all after a few minutes! It doesn't seem to bother her in any way, so I wonder if it is a birth defect. She is sleeping by feet now. She is very snuggly and sweet; she is very skinny, though! I'll fatten her up ;). She will make a PERFECT pet for someone!
