Sunkiss and Charlie

Charlie and Sunkiss are two kittens who came to us from the Bridgeport neighborhood's Throop Street Ferals program.  These two little muffins are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. They are fixed, tested, chipped, and ready to go! Apply ASAP at hydeparkcatsadoptions@gmail.com.

Charlie is an adorable gray/black male kitten with a hint of orange around his ears. If you have a lap that's in need of a cat, then Charlie is the one for you. He loves to snuggle and cuddle for hours on end while curling up on a leg, lap, or arm. He's even taken to perching himself on our shoulders as he surveys the living room terrain - an activity that he finds especially important when playing chase with his closest compatriot Sunkiss. Sunkiss (or Sunny) is a white, black, and orange female calico with a motor that ranges from purr to full speed ahead. She enjoys chasing her favorite mouse, pouncing on Charlie, and curling up for a nice belly rub. Their daily wrestling matches are quite the spectacle -- Charlie hollering "uncle" as Sunny does all she can to pin him to the carpet.

Oreo

Our Adoption Coordinator was walking her dog in an alley near Cornell and 54th Street yesterday morning when she heard the distinctive sound of kitten screaming. Upon investigation she found ... this, pouring its lonely and scared heart out to the world. Kitten's attempts to run away met with kitten's tush and tail sticking up comically from under a garbage can, from whence kitten was plucked, wrapped in a fleece sweater, and brought inside. The household girl has named her Oreo, because she has a white spot on her chest and on her tummy. She is just a tiny baby and very sweet.

Cats and kittens are not available for adoption until they have completed a certain amount of veterinary processing. Oreo is safe and sound for the moment; other cats and kittens are available right now; visit available for adoption to find out more!

Penguina

Penguina was found outside by a young woman who lives in the neighborhood directly abutting the south part of the UC campus. Many friendly but homeless cats roam the alleys there, and only a few are lucky enough to come inside. Penguina is an adorable young female black and white kitty with world-class whiskers, big eyes, and a funny white chin. She's a purr machine who is loving and friendly, and seeking a loving and friendly person! Thanks to Kimaya for caring and bringing her inside.

Eve and Eden are waiting

Eve and Eden came to us as frightened kittens and have blossomed into affectionate love bugs. These sweet sisters love to cuddle and play. Eve greets her foster mom in the morning and when she returns home with excited chirps. Eden, still somewhat shy, is getting more confident daily and purrs happily when being pet.  Eve and Eden love to chase string and pester their foster cat brothers.  These sweet girls are ready for their new furrever homes -- apply today at hydeparkcatsadoptions@gmail.com. Randy

Kim R., a black-cat aficionado, met Randy at the recent volunteer trip to AWL and just had to take him to her house to foster him. "It's difficult to believe that he'd been at AWL for almost 3 months, both because his coat is so beautiful and slick and because he has a ton of personality" reports Kim. "He is spunky and playful... he loves galloping across the apartment and wrestling with his foster brother Marlo (also formerly of AWL). At the same time, however, he is incredibly sweet and affectionate. Even though I've only been fostering him less than a week, he already climbs into bed with me and nuzzles his nose against my face like a dog. I think he'd be great for a home with other pets and/or children, as he doesn't mind horsing around!"

Randy is three or four years old, neutered, neg/neg, and all black save for a distinguished-looking white bow tie marking.

Juno

Juno is a black and white female who was found pregnant on the streets at a very young age.  Thanks to a wonderful neighborhood volunteer, Juno came inside for the vet care and warm safety that she needed. Juno is a cute little gal who enjoys petting and playing. She has an adorable button nose! Apply to adopt this gal today by emailing hydeparkcatsadoptions@gmail.com

After a great summer of adoptions, things have been slow in September. Share the word about us to your friends, folks who are new in Hyde Park, etc. Email hydeparkcats@gmail.com for our poster, too, if you want to help out in a concrete way!

September AWL Volunteer Day

*VOLUNTEER DAY at ANIMAL WELFARE LEAGUE* this Friday, September 14: we have spaces open if you would like to participate. Email hydeparkcats@gmail.com for details.

Animal Welfare League (62nd and Wabash) is an open-door facility mere minutes away from Hyde Park. The facility is unable to do adoptions, so all animals brought there need to be "pulled" by a rescue (or be eventually euthanized). Our visits to AWL work directly to help cats get "pulled" by socializing and grooming them. You can hug the cats, pet the cats, brush the cats, play with the cats, kiss the cats, love the cats. This will be the only time the cats spend out of their cage during that day (and perhaps longer).

WISH LIST: The shelter always needs clean towels (used!), newspaper, dish detergent and of course cat/dog food of any type. Our drop-off for donations is at Parker's, a Natural Dog Cat Market on 55th St.

Thanks to Leslie S., our AWL Coordinator, for making these trips possible.

Elwood

Elwood, a young male, was found in a cat colony south of the Midway. When found, he was skinny and scared and dirty. Volunteers trapped him and took him to Treehouse, where he tested negative for viruses and was neutered, chipped, and vaxed. He is a total hugger and lap climber and loves to be pettted and played with all the time. He's quite kittenish. He is currently in a foster home with a young child; fostermom says "he's just a little Valentine." Check out his fur heart in the top photo! Email us today to apply to adopt Elwood: hydeparkcatsadoptions@gmail.com.

Cassie & Kio

Brother and Sister - look at those eyes!
Cassie

Kio
Cassie and Kio are a cuddly brother and sister pair. Kio is a gorgeous grey male with giant paws who absolutely loves to give hugs. He'll actually wrap his paws around your neck and just start purring away. He's very active and loves to play, especially with his sister. Little black Cassie is more shy than her brother and about half the size but once she warms up she's an absolute love bug and will sit contentedly in a lap for hours. They are both very sweet and even-tempered kitties! Cassie and Kio were born in an abandoned building in Bridgeport, and were originally adopted from us last year, but returned when their owner got a job that demanded a great deal of travel. They must be adopted together, and promise a lifetime of monochromatic cat love.

Check out Throop Street Ferals, operating in a neighborhood just a few minutes north of us. They have lots of kittens and preggers mamas!
